The last town on Kuhio Highway before dropping down into Hanalei, Princeville started as a planned golf and retirement community and has evolved into a quiet family neighborhood and resort and vacation rental destination. As a designated Visitors Designated Area all of Princeville can be rented out with no minimum length of lease with no TVRNC (Transient Vacation Rental Non Conforming) license needed. With a large supermarket, shops, restaurants, and post office the Princeville Center is a hub of north shore activity. There are several scenic overlooks over Hanalei Valley with the twin peaks of Hihimanu towering above Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge and taro fields below. The Makai Golf Course winds through Princeville, a Robert Trent Jones designed course with the Par 3, 7th hole being called "one of the most beautiful golf holes in the world". Queens Bath and Hideaways Beach are accessible from Princeville for ocean lovers but parking is limited and ocean conditions can be hazardous particularly in winter months. Princeville Botanical Gardens can be found a short distance away, unfortunately the ziplines and other activities found at Princeville ranch Adventures has recently closed, though horseback lessons are still available.
