Koloa was the site of Hawaii's first successful sugarcane plantation and sugar mill. Workers were brought from around the world in those different times, greatly benefitting some landowners and wealthy corporations, but also helping secure the vibrancy of the mixed cultural traditions, music, recipes, and perspectives of present day Kauai. Like Poipu, Koloa has been expanding both commercial and residentially but continues to retain a small town feel. With the closure of Princeville Adventures, Koloa Zipline is now the only zipline experience on Kauai with three different ziplines on their course. There is a great Open Air Market in Koloa every day with the exception of Monday's, along with a Culinary Market on Wednesday's and a traditional Sunshine Market on Monday's.
